ü    The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the construction of a medical waste sterilization center, located in Abbasiyeh and serving the municipalities of the caza of Tyre was prepared under a separate contract and submitted to the Ministry of Environment.

ü  The Ministry of Environment granted its preliminary approval on the submitted EIA on March 2007. The design consultant started working on the detailed design.

ü  The tender document was  launched by the end of May 2008.

ü  Tender opening  and Evaluation took place on 30 July 2008.

ü  The contract was awarded to the Contractor "Joseph Maalouf Est" on 20 October 2008.

ü The order to commence was provided to the contractor on 2 December 2008.

ü Works on site were completed in September 2009.

ü Provisional acceptance of the Medical Waste Treatment Facility is expected to take place in December 2009.

ü Provisional acceptance of the Medical Waste Treatment Facility took place in January 2010.
